The Sacred Heart varsity baseball team lost its final game of the season at home Sunday against Westport High School 6-5. The four graduating seniors (captain Jack Murray #20, captain Andrew Mason #25, Nick Samia #27, and Joe Sullivan #30) were recognized with their parents before the game. The Saints finished 5-11 after losing nine of their first ten games. Freshman Joe Krochko emerged as the ace of the staff, going 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA. Sophomore John Husband led the team in hitting with a .435 batting average, 7 doubles, and 9 RBI. Coach Mike Hurm, after his first season at Sacred Heart, said, "We're young and this year was a lot of fun, especially our last six games. Our goal in 2018 will be to work hard enough to earn a spot in the playoffs." The Saints are expecting 11 players to return, giving them a realistic shot of improving their record next season.
