The Sacred Heart swim teams made a big splash at the Bay Colony Conference league meet last week.

Undermanned and out gunned, the boys and girls of the Sacred Heart swim team made their presence known at Sandwich High school.

Andrew Hokanson and Sullivan Padget represented the boys.  Both swimmers put forth personal bests in both the 50-free and the 100-free.

On the girls’ side of the meet,  Emily Porelle and Lauren Hanna both had personal bests in the 50-free, while Abby Veitkus swam her personal best of 30.30 to finish 18th out of 72 swimmers.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Kristina Fantoni, Catherine Crampton, Caroline Crampton and Abby Veitkus swam a 2:07.34 to take 4th out of 18 teams overall.  The S.H. team was able to cut 1.8 seconds off of their best time, missing the sectional cut time by just 1.5 seconds.

Catherine Crampton placed 2nd out of 16 swimmers in the 200 yard IM with a personal best of 2:20.82.  This performance earned her a place in the MIAA sectionals at MIT and a place in the state finals being swum a BU.  Catherine also swam a 1:13.97 in the 100 yard breast stroke to finish 3rd out of a field of 21.  This time also earned her a spot in the state sectionals just three 100ths of a second away from qualifying for the states.

Kristina Fantoni swam a personal best in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.91 finishing 7th out of a field of 28 and just 2 seconds from making the sectionals cut.

The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Kristian Fantoni, Caroline Crampton, Catherine Crampton and Abby Veitkus turned in another outstanding performance with a time of 1:56.35 giving them a 7th place finish out of a field of 22 teams.
During the course of the swim season, the sister team of Caroline and Catherine Crampton have six sectional qualifications and one state qualification under their belt.

Congratulations to all swimmers for their outstanding efforts! All deserve a pat on the back for such fine personal and team performances.

A final note: The 2017 S.H.H.S Boys and Girls swim teams are made up entirely of 7th and 8th graders.  They are young, they are strong, they are competitive and they are a force to be reckoned with moving forward.  The future is bright.
