Mrs. Carey's Classroom Community

Dear Parents and Families:
      I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into our classroom. My name is Linda Carey and I will be your child's Pre-Kindergarten teacher this year.  I also want to introduce you to the new teaching assistant for our pre-k team for our MWF classes, Mrs. Dawne Doyle. Mrs. Doyle has worked in preschool for the past few years and is excited to be working with us and all of your wonderful children.

      For both of us, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of our hopes as educators is to instill a love of learning in our students, as we share our own passion for learning with them. We are truly excited to work with you and your children this year and we are looking forward to meeting all of you.

   There are a few things that your child will need to remember each day they come to school. Don't forget to pack a snack labeled with their name, a lunch, their folder and a backpack large enough to hold their things. Please have them wear sneakers and dress for the weather. We will be going out twice each day for recess.

   All important information and what is happening in our classroom will be posted on our page on the school website. I also will be sending home a hard copy of my monthly and weekly newslwtters all year.. I can be reached at the phone number and email address below. I will do my best to respond in a timely manner. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to an exciting, educational and fun-filled year!

  • January Newsletter

    January Newsletter
    Dear Families,
    Happy 2017! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break. We have another fun and busy month ahead.
     January’s focus in science and social studies will be on the season of winter, winter animals and hibernation. As the month progresses, we will discover what the other side of the world is experiencing while we are chilly here in New England.  Our exploration will take us to Australia where the weather is much warmer!
    The dramatic play area this month is being transformed into the Sacred Heart Medical Center. The doctor’s office will be stocked with some important medical supplies so our “doctors” and “nurses” can help out all our incoming “patients” this month. I will also take this time to discuss the importance of good hand washing and general rules that are essential to keep all of the germs away during this cold and flu season!
    This month in the block area we have the wooden blocks for the children to use. Because blocks are designed in mathematical units, the children playing with them develop a concrete understanding of concepts essential to logical thinking. Blocks truly are an amazing learning tool because children learn about sizes, shapes, numbers, orders, area, length and weight while also using their wonderful problem solving and social skills to work together as a unit.
     Our next monthly Show and Tell will be on January 26th for the children who attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and January 27th for the children who attend school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. As always, please help your child find an object at home that starts with the letters that we have been working on. I will send out a reminder in our weekly O.W.L. newsletter as the dates approach. The letters we will focus on this month are Gg, Ll, Rr, Ww, Hh, Uu, Zz, and Qq.
    In January we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., by learning about his dream for a better world. We will discuss why we celebrate this important American figure.
    As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via my email;

    Star of the Week
    Congratulations your child has been chosen to be STAR OF THE WEEK for the week of:___________________________.  Today ______________
    brought home a poster and a person to fill out and decorate with your help.  You and your child can color and decorate the poster and person with pictures of people and things that are important to them.   I have also sent home a tote bag that he/she can put 1 special item in that he/she can share with the class that will allow us to know more about them.  It can be a favorite toy, something they collect, etc.  Please bring the poster, person and tote bag back to school on _______________________________ to share with the class.
    If you or someone special to your child would like to be a Mystery Reader during this week, please email me and let me know what day will work for you.  I would like to have the Mystery Reader come in at 2:00 if possible.
