Varsity Speech Ranks in Top 24 at George Mason

The Varsity team had a truly impressive performance in the third largest tournament of the year: The George Mason Patriot Games.
At this tournament, students can compete in up to six categories. Co-Captains Zoe Emme ‘17 and Kory Turner ‘17 competed in a combined ten categories total.
The final results for the team were outstanding. In Lincoln Douglas Debate, Freshman foreign-exchange student, Tommy Hu, was able to win three of his five rounds, an amazing feat for a first year LD competitor who was battling against articulate varsity debaters.
Zoe Emme, Kory Turner, and freshman, Kayla Turner had advanced to the quarterfinal rounds of Poetry Reading, a category that had approximately 180 students. Kory Turner went on to win Poetry as well as taking first place in Prose Reading, a category with about 150 students, and placed fifth place in Individual Sweepstakes.
Overall, the Sacred Heart was ranked among the top twenty-four teams out of just under 200 schools. The next national circuit tournament the team will be attending is the Columbia University Invitational.
