Terra Cura Comes to the Elementary School

Students at the Elementary School were treated to a visit from local non-profit organization Terra Cura. The organization used our new Elementary School garden project to illustrate the differences between local and industrial food systems and the costs and benefits of each.
Based out of Kingston the organization seeks to promote the social ethics of land care, people care, and fair share locally and globally. Terra Cura creates resillient communities through placemaking, connecting people to food systems, nature & one another.
Their presentation at Sacred Heart included a tasting comparison of tomatoes grown here in our garden to tomatoes from industrial sources. The students learned about the importance of supporting farm to table produce from both economic and nutritional standpoints. The students also got outside for a garden scavenger hunt and more discussion on sustaining local agriculture.
