As our nation increasingly defines its educational goals in terms of empowering students to reason and think, language becomes a crucial link in attaining these goals. Our students must be able to examine and reflect about the multiple uses of languages in order to participate fully in the diverse discourses, which mark contemporary society. Various computer applications facilitate interactive teaching and learning at all levels. The acquisition of eBooks and iBooks open the doors for cultural enrichment far beyond the limits of printed texts.
Students begin the study of World Languages in seventh grade by taking courses in French, Latin, or Spanish. Students entering Sacred Heart High School from our Intermediate School have had two years of a second language. They may continue to level two with advanced standing when entering the ninth grade. This gives them the advantage of four more years to acquire increased proficiency. Sacred Heart School strongly recommends the full sequential program of four or five years of language study.
