  • April 12, 2019

    • All students who have had their course selection meeting with Mrs. Gallitano please return the SIGNED course selection sheet today.  Mrs. Gallitano will be submitting the final course selections later this morning.  If you wish to make changes in your selections please do so in writing.  If you need a waiver form to override a recommendation you must pick one up in her office.
     
    • Attention seniors:  the deadline for ordering yearbooks is May 3rd.  On that date the number of copies of the yearbook to be printed will be determined and the online order process will be shut down.  As of today, 20 seniors have placed an order.  Order now so you are sure to have a yearbook to commemorate this year at Sacred Heart.  All transactions take place on the Jostens website.  See Mr. Masi with questions.
     
    • Attention students and staff:  The deadline for ordering yearbooks is May 3rd.  On that date the number of copies of the yearbook to be printed will be determined and the online order process will be shut down.  As of today, 83 people have placed an order.  Order now so you are sure to have a yearbook to commemorate this year at Sacred Heart.  All transactions take place on the Jostens website.  See Mr. Masi for details.

    • Sacred Heart baseball defeated Norfolk Aggie yesterday 12-7.  Josh Krueger and Mike Hurm pitched very well.  Hurm picked up the win in the comeback victory for the Saints.  Seven different Sacred Heart players had hits.  Next game is April 24th.

    • The girls tennis team started their season on a down note by dropping their first match to Cape Cod Academy 2 - 3.  

    The team rebounded by winning their next four league matches. On Wednesday April 3rd the team traveled to Westport to take on their league rival.  Victories in the number 3 singles by Emma Keane and wins in the first doubles by Abby Slavik and Abby Morse and second doubles by Catherine Berlo and Megan Ravanesi secured the 3 -2 win.  The winning streak continued with a win over West Bridgewater.  Victorious for Sacred Heart was Emma Keane in third singles followed by Abby Slavik and Abby Morse in first doubles with Catherine Berlo and Megan Ravanesi securing the win at second doubles giving the team a 3 - 2 victory.  The team traveled to Fall River on Wednesday April 10th to take on the Cougars of  Bishop Connolly. A stellar performance by all members of the team secured a 5 - 0 win.  Bella LaGrassa at first singles, Julia Abraham at second singles, Emma Keane at third singles, Abby Slavik and Catherine Berlo at first doubles and Megan Ravanesi and Mia Corradini at second doubles were all victorious.

    The week was capped off with a trip back to Fall River to take on the Diman Regional Bengals.  Despite being short-handed, the team rose to the occasion and defeated the Bengals 4 - 1.  Victorious were Bella LaGrassa at first singles, Julia Abraham at second singles, Catherine Berlo at third singles and Abby Morse and Megan Ravanesi at first doubles.

    Congratulation to the girls for a great start to the season.  Their next match will be at Coyle and Cassidy on Wednesday April 24th.

    • Boy’s lacrosse won yesterday defeating New Bedford 13-2.  Sacred Heart students who scored, Shawn Tracy scored 6 goals and had 2 assists and Evan Viola scored 1 goal – congratulations!

    • Cardinal Sean O’Malley and Father Eric Cadin would like to thank the young men who joined them for dinner last night.  Cardinal Sean said they were very polite, respectful and excellent examples of Sacred Heart High School.
     
    • 7th-grade students who are attending the Washington, DC trip in May please report to Mr. Steele’s room 101 at tutorial today we will go over room assignments.

    • The Sacred Heart Speech Team traveled to Needham High School on Saturday for the annual “March Merryness Tournament”.  Kayla Turner placed 2nd in Poetry and 4th in Prose.  Evrosina Award placed 6th in Prose.  The following team members have qualified for the State Tournament, Kayla Turner, Evrosina Awad, Mary Kelley, Lydia Fitton-Alves, Sullivan Padgett, Avery Schaub.  Congratulations!
     
    • There will be a class meeting for sophomores during tutorial, Mrs. Gallitano will distribute course selection sheets for next year and will explain the process.

    • Congratulations to Xingbang “William” Liao for winning a NATIONAL Silver Medal Award as well as a Gold Key Award from the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition!  Also, congratulations to Wenjing “Erin” Zhang for also winning a Gold Key Award.  The Boston Globe is doing a feature on Erin’s stop motion animation film, entitled “Effluxion” which is about pollution in our oceans.  William and Erin’s artwork will be on display in Boston at Tufts University this Saturday!  Congratulations to you both!

    • Congratulations to Mayflower League All-Stars Kylie Slavik and Michael Hurm.  Both students had multiple points, steals, assists and rebounds in the All Star game last night in Holbrook.  Also, congratulations to Abby Slavik and Connor Meikle for their outstanding 3 point performances at the All Star game.

    • Quiz Bowl Team will be competing in a Quiz Competition this Saturday at An Unlikely Story Bookstore and Café in Plainville.  The competition will be hosted by Jeff Kinney, author of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series.  Go Quiz Bowl Team!
